Painter, born in Belfast, where he continued to live. He attended the College of Art there, followed by Liverpool College of Art. Ballard was a rich Colourist, in the tradition of the Scottish painters Peploe and Cadell, notable for his still lifes. His exhibitions included Butlin Foundation for Young Irish Artists, Arts Council, Belfast, 1967; Tom Caldwell Gallery, Belfast, from 1972; Main Fine Art, Glasgow, 1986; Mistral Galleries, 1990; Waterman Fine Art Ltd, 1992, and Cadogan Contemporary, 2000. Ballard’s work is held by Arts Council of Northern Ireland; Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork; and Ulster Museum, Belfast.
