Self-taught painter in oil and watercolour, born in London, sea and shipping pictures a speciality. During World War II Wilcox served in the Royal Navy and was for several years a camouflage officer. Exhibited at ROI, RBA, RI and RSW and at provincial venues. Produced work for industrial firms, British Railways and illustrated maritime publications; wrote several books with naval themes. HM The Queen had work by Wilcox on the Royal Yacht Britannia and the shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis and businessman Garfield Weston owned his pictures, which are also in public collections, notably the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and Government House, Jamaica. Lived at Rustington, Sussex.
