A depiction of Charles Pelham-Anderson’s lemon and white water spaniel painted by one of the greatest English horse painters. George Stubbs was fascinated by wild animals and a number of fine works exist of rare animals. During his move to Lincolnshire by 1758, Stubbs worked for Charles Pelham-Anderson at Brocklesby on two occasions. The dog is most likely to be a mongrel, not a pure breed. The work was commissioned by Charles Anderson Pelham, 1st Earl of Yarborough.
