A member of a family of microscope manufacturers founded in Paris in 1839 by Camille-Sébastien Nachet (1799–1881) and continued by his son Jean-Alfred Nachet (1831–1908). Albert Nachet was also a scholar of the history of microscopy and a collector of historic microscopes. Commissioned by Henry S. Wellcome for his Gallery of Portraits, showing the personalities whose collections and writings were displayed in his exhibition galleries.
