Peter Young’s meteoric rise from 2nd Lieutenant in 1937 to Brigadier in 1945 reflected his intelligence and ability in the field. After retiring from military service in 1959, Young went on to be appointed Reader in Military History at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (1959–1969), and wrote a number of books on military history. He was a founder of the English Civil War re-enactment group, the Sealed Knot. His interest in military history is indicated by the picture of a soldier of the 16th Regiment circa 1740 on the wall behind. Brigadier Young was also a member of the Council of the National Army Museum.
