The Stornoway campus of Lews Castle College houses long-term loans by local artists, chief of which are works by David Greenall. Greenall moved to South Dell in the north of Lewis in 1991. He mixes his own colours from raw pigment and his works demonstrate an understanding of light, depicting typical aspects of the Hebridean landscapes such as crofts, lighthouses and shores, in untypical colourscapes.

The Butt of Lewis headland is the most northerly point of the Isle of Lewis, a couple of miles north of the artist’s home in South Dell, and is exposed to the Atlantic.
