This is one of three still lifes Picasso painted on 26 December 1948. The ingredients for a meal – a lemon, a lobster and a ‘poron’ (from porrón, a traditional Spanish wine pitcher) – have been placed on a table which is tipped towards the viewer. The table sits on a floor made from distinctive hexagonal tiles, which identifies the location as Picasso’s studio on the Rue des Grands Augustins in Paris.
