Sir Robert Meyer served for over 50 years as Town Clerk of Belfast and was knighted in 1921. He was presented with the Freedom of the City on 8th September 1924. Meyer served as Town Clerk until his death on 11th September 1935. By this time, he had worked for the Corporation for over 61 years.
The position of Town Clerk was a precursor to the modern day equivalent position of Chief Executive of the council.
