This humorous painting was part of a solo show, based on society in Northern Ireland that travelled extensively throughout Ireland and the United Sates. This painting in particular represents the Battle of the Boyne in 1690. The idea of a battle which took place 300 years ago still concerning modern day society intrigues Duffy. It was after the artist read 'Gulliver's Travels' that images of a giant amongst a population of dwarves became the inspiration for this work. The artist states that somehow the two notions fused together to create this painting, with its shackled giant, with an orange sash/river, who raises his sword to stab an unfortunate individual in twentieth-century attire.
