W. M. Pryce was the author of 'Mineralogia Cornubiensis'. Edward Clifford was born in Bristol in 1844, the son of Reverend Clifford. He studied in Bristol and at Royal Academy schools. Among his sitters were Lady Henrietta Ogilvy, the Countess of Pembroke, General Gordon and Lady Castlereagh. Clifford was deeply religious and later worked for the Church Army.
