It's the beginning of a new year, which means you may need artistic inspiration to get through some of the greyest upcoming months.

Thankfully, Instagram is the perfect place to absorb and admire work by established and emerging artists, many of whom are using the digital platform to showcase their practice or reveal the processes behind their work.

Here's a breakdown of some of Art UK's favourite artists to follow on Instagram in 2020.

Sofia Mitsola

Sofia Mitsola is an emerging Greek artist who graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL in 2018. Her intimate portraits project the female gaze onto the female body, which in the artist's own words 'are about confrontation, power, and control.'

Darladiladada, 2020 In this painting, I wanted to make a sea urchin hunting scene, interrupted by the viewer, who in my mind is approaching the boat, hidden beneath the water to look at these gigantic sea nymphs. A goal for these new paintings was to simplify even more the compositions and try to enrich my painterly language. Still keeping the flatness of the image, I have been working with more textures, different brushstrokes and marks, translucency, and opacity. I wanted to paint the silkiness of the skin, one porcelain and one honey brown, the temperatures of the bodies, the coolness of the water, the different weights of the paint, the heavy upper wold to imply humidity, and the lightly painted sea which is lifting up this big mass, boat and figures. On until the 8th of February @pilarcorriasgallery ➡️open Monday to Friday 10:00-6:00 and Saturday 11:00-6:00. @pilarcorriasgallery. @condo_complex
