With over 14,000 works of art spanning five centuries, the Government Art Collection is the largest most dispersed collection of British art in the world. Two thirds of the Collection is on display in British Government buildings in nearly every capital city around the world. Dating from 1898, the Collection helps promote British art and history while contributing to cultural diplomacy.

The premises of the Government Art Collection are in London. These are not normally open to visitors, however, free evening tours for established groups take place three times a month. Approximately one third of the Collection is on site at any time – the other two-thirds is displayed in British Government buildings in the UK and abroad.
