Lews Castle College is located in the Western Isles and is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). The college includes a centre at Lochmaddy in North Uist, where a partnership with award-winning arts organisation Taigh Chearsabhagh has allowed, in collaboration with Moray School of Art, Moray College (also a UHI partner), the development of a fine art course specialising in environmental art.
Lews Castle College has established a programme of purchasing examples of artworks produced by its Lochmaddy graduates. These works, housed in the College's main campus in Stornoway, exhibit a wide variety of media, subject, inspiration and interpretation, and are often informed by the unique and bleakly beautiful local environment, landscape and culture.
In addition to these more recent acquisitions, the college also houses long term loans by local artists, chief of which are works by David Greenall, as well as various works relating to Lews Castle College’s historical connections.
Access is by appointment only. Appointments are may be booked (subject to staff availability) between 9am–5pm Monday–Friday (except at Christmas, New Year and public holidays), via the College Library staff, at lelibrary@lews.uhi.ac.uk or on 01851 770409.
