The Museum is located in the old Carnegie Library built in 1905 which now contains displays about the natural history and stories of the people who have made the Borough of Melton their home. The galleries focus on the history of the town and its relationship with the surrounding countryside and local trades, particulary those associated with fox hunting which made the area famous during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Changing Life in Rural Britain Gallery explores the complex issues facing the countryside today. As a centre for agricultural development, country sports and prosperous related industries Melton Mowbray was well positioned to support nineteenth-century artists such as John Ferneley and Francis Grant. Other artists featured in the displays include John Fulleylove, Tim Fisher and Bryan Page.
