Approached through an impressive gateway, Michelham Priory is set in beautiful grounds and is surrounded by England's longest medieval water-filled moat. The property dates back to 1229 when the Priory was founded by Augustinian canons. The Priory remained a religious house until the Dissolution in 1537. The property went through a number of transformations and building developments, becoming a working farm and comfortable family home. The Priory and its grounds were given to the Sussex Archaeological Society in 1959.
