Housed in six eighteenth-century cottages situated within Glamis village, in the heart of the Vale of Strathmore, Angus Folk Museum offers a vivid insight into the realities of rural life over the past 200 years. The heart of the museum’s collection was created by Lady Jean Maitland, a local resident, who was inspired by the Highland Folk Museum in Kingussie. Lady Maitland collected everyday items that documented the social and economic life of rural lowland communities in Angus before the sweeping social changes of the mid-twentieth century. The museum displays artefacts from a wide range of rural activities such as farming, hunting, weaving and wood-turning from 1750 to 1950. Also on show are a small number of folk art paintings and a Victorian portrait.
