A masterpiece of domestic architecture designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Hill House was built for the Glasgow publisher Walter Blackie and his family between 1902 and 1904. With beautiful views over the Clyde estuary, the house blends tradition with a uniquely modern twist, and is as visually striking today as it was a hundred years ago. The stunning interior is a result of collaborations between Mackintosh and his wife, Margaret Macdonald, who contributed fabric designs and a gesso panel above the fireplace in the drawing room. Mackintosh also laid out the garden along broad lines, although it was Walter Blackie and his family who shaped the garden as we see it today.
