Penrith and Eden Museum is located in the town's historic Robinson's School, a building founded in 1670 as a girls' charity school. It now houses a collection of material reflecting the history and culture of Penrith and the surrounding Eden District. The work of Penrith-born artist Jacob Thompson is a particular feature, his work patronised by William, Earl of Lonsdale of nearby Lowther Castle, and talents recognised by William Wordsworth, a frequent visitor to the castle.
