The collection of portraits hanging at the offices of the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain comprises composers, musicians, donors and patrons. Britain’s oldest musical charity purchased its first oil portrait in 1813 and accepted its most recent gift in 2010. There are two portraits of George Frideric Handel, the Society’s most influential benefactor to date. A set of four paintings of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century composers (Handel, Corelli, Geminiani and Daniel Purcell) once hung in the private box of George III at the Concerts of Antient Music in Tottenham Street, and is complemented by a larger than life portrait of the King by Gainsborough Dupont.
