The University of Warwick is situated on the outskirts of Coventry. It is in easy reach of the motorway system and the nearest railway station is 5km away in Coventry.

The collection, which now contains over 800 works, was begun when the University opened in 1965. It is particularly strong in paintings from the 1960s and 1970s, including works by Jack Bush, Gene Davis, Patrick Heron, Terry Frost, John Hoyland and Albert Irvin. Later acquisitions include works by Thérèse Oulton, Estelle Thompson, Callum Innes, Ian McKeever and George Shaw.

The University of Warwick's painting collection is not gallery-based, but is dispersed in buildings across four campuses. Most of it is easily accessible but visitors should initially contact the Curator when planning a visit.
