The Regimental Museum collects objects, photographs and records which originate from or have an association with the York and Lancaster Regiment, or its forebears, the 65th and 84th Regiments of Foot. This includes all aspects of Regimental life during the period of time 1758 to 1968. The Regimental collection of fine art is relatively small, consisting of around 85 artworks. The paintings show important leaders from the Regiment’s history. There are, for instance, two paintings of Field Marshal Herbert Charles Onslow Plumer, 1st Viscount Plumer, whose collection, including medals and uniform, forms an important part of the wider Regimental collection. The painting ‘The Battle of Tamaai’ is a depiction of one of the 1st Battalion York and Lancaster (formerly the 65th of Foot) battles in Egypt in 1884.
