Self-taught figurative painter, originally of portraits, then in an allegorical style. Gollon dealt with the tragedy and misfortune of the human condition, his subjects including tramps, grotesques and misfits, sometimes with a manic quality. He was a finalist in Hunting Group Prizes, Mall Galleries, 1989, also showing at ROI from 1990. Solo exhibitions included Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, 1993, televised and so popular it was extended two weeks; Lawrence Batley Centre, West Bretton, 1994; The Pump House Gallery, 1995; and The Road to Narragonia, Lamont Gallery, 1996; Galerie Simoncini, Luxembourg,1997, the year that Independent Art Promotions (IAP Fine Art) successfully exhibited Gollon’s work in Bahrain. In 1998, Gollon exhibited in ROOT at the Chisenhale Gallery, London, a crossover exhibition of contemporary music and art originated by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, and including works by Gavin Turk, Yoko Ono and David Bowie.
