Trained by his father, Lucien Pissarro was the son of the leading French Impressionist painter, Camille Pissarro, Lucien represented perhaps the most direct connection between English and European Impressionism. He settled in London in 1890 and was soon befriended by Walter Sickert. Pissarro’s use of intense, strongly contrasting colour was a major influence on the work of other artists and he co-founded the Camden Town group of artists in 1911 and the Monarro group in 1919 which propagated Impressionism in England.
