A marble statue of the sun god Apollo. He stands naked, his right hand resting on a lyre, alluding to his role as patron of music and poetry. The statue incorporates an antique torso of Narcissus, with eighteenth-century restorations to the head, both arms, both legs, lyre and base. The subject could also be interpreted as Orpheus. it was probably acquired for Robert Adam's remodelling of the Marble Hall in the 1760s. It was first recorded in 1782 inventory of Osterley in the Marble Hall.
