Charles Perry was born in Middlesex, UK in 1807. In 1824 he went to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated BA in 1828 as senior wrangler, first Smith's prizeman and seventh in the first class of the classical tripos. He became sometime fellow of Trintiy College in 1829. He was Bishop of Melbourne, Australia 1847–1876 and Chairman of the Council of Ridley Hall 1880–1890. A copy of Perry's portrait by Henry Weigall is at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
