Lamb was Member of Parliament for Rye from 1802 to 1806 and private secretary to the secretary of state for foreign affairs from 1801 to 1802. He became Captain Lieutenant in 1794 and Captain the following year and also served from 1803 to 1806 as Lieutenant Colonel of 3rd Battalion, Cinque Port Volunteers. In 1810 he became a Major in the Cinque Ports Miltia and served as Mayor of Rye three times between 1803 and 1817.
