This painting depicts a view in the Lake District. It shows Catbells and Causey Pike with Derwentwater in the middle distance and the church spire of St John's Church, Keswick on the right. The artist is one of Cumbria's most important landscape painters. He painted the scenery of Cumbria, the Lake District and the Borders, particularly favouring remote areas, in his own uniquely precise style.
