The community at Llanfihangel Tre'r Beirdd could not afford a stone or slate memorial for the men lost during the Great War. Instead they commissioned Harry Hughes Williams to paint a memorial on canvas. It hung for years in the local primary school, Ysgol Ty Mawr, until it closed in 2010.
