Appointed as Official British War Artist in 1991 during the Gulf War, Keane’s work is often concerned with conflict and with social and political issues. Here, Keane focuses on the Thatcherist ‘yuppie’ culture of the 1980s, with its heart in London’s finance sector. This work indicates how growth in communication networks, fed by a newly widespread use of computers as well as telephones and print, were quickening the pace of business. Keane’s lively brushwork and slightly skewed perspective emphasise change, turmoil and the perceived dominance of financial figures at the time.
