This distinguished gentleman is believed to be Dr Lawrence, and most probably William Lawrence (1753–1837), a respected surgeon and physician in the town with a practice in Dyer Street. His eldest son, Sir William Lawrence (1783–1867), was also a celebrated surgeon becoming Sergeant Surgeon to Queen Victoria.
