The Royal Academician William Bowyer is best known for his vibrantly coloured paintings of the River Thames near his home in Chiswick. Often on a large scale, they are painted from life with the use of vigorous and expressive mark making. Bowyer studied at the Royal College of Art where his tutors included Carel Weight and Ruskin Spear, and for many years was a leading figure in the New English Art Club.
