Graphic designer. Born in Montana, USA, Kauffer came to England in 1914 and exhibited as a painter until 1921 when his commercial work took over entirely. For over 25 years his posters for the London Underground as well as for Shell-Mex, BP, the GPO and many other companies, borrowing Cubist and Futurist motifs, were especially influential.
