A pastiche of the nineteenth century, this picture is based on a celebrated portrait of Eleanora of Toledo by Bronzino, of which an important version is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington. This painting may derive from an engraving since the figure is in reverse with respect to Bronzino's design. The landscape background has been added and some details of the pose and costume changed.
