This sculpture consists of four horses with riders and an incorporated plinth. The white horse is Conquest, the red horse is War, the black horse is Famine or Pestilence, and the green horse is Death.

The sculptor Harold Gosney was born in Sheffield and moved to Cleethorpes at the age of 11. He studied and later taught at Grimsby School of Art. The collection also holds a working drawing for the piece.
