He married Miss Elizabeth Pattinson of Baltimore. However, when he brought his bride back to France from the United States Napoleon refused to allow her to stay on French soil. As a result the baby she was expecting was born in Camberwell in England. Her marriage to Jerome was quickly and cruelly annulled by Napoleon.
Francois-Joseph Kinsoen was born and trained as an artist in Bruges in Flanders but later became a naturalized French citizen. He was painter to the Court of Westphalia in Jerome’s time, and after the fall of the Empire, became painter to the Duke of Angouleme.
