A view of Kirkwall from the Peedie Sea dominated by St Magnus Cathedral, this painting also shows the gasworks and Kirkwall's first electric power station amid the huddle of roofs. The sailing yole gives the foreground interest and there is sign of human activity, quiet and unassuming on the banks of he sea. The painting was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1951.
