Caroline Alicia Fleming, Lady Brisco (d.1822) was the daughter of Gilbert Fane Fleming and his wife, Lady Camilla Bennet. She married John Brisco (1739–1805) in 1776. Lady Brisco stands dressed in a white fitted English robe with gold ribbon wrapped around her sleeves and a fringed sash around her waist. She wears a string of long pearls which loop around her brooch. Her powdered hair is piled high and crowned with an ostrich plume. Caricature engravings show that this extravagant hairstyle was very popular during the 1770s. She stares off into the distance. A spaniel stands up on its back legs, reaching up to her relaxed outstretched hand. In the background, the sun sets over a dark mountainous landscape. The canvas was extended on the right-hand side to allow the addition of a waterfall.
