Lady Bullough was born in New Zealand on 7th April 1869. Her mother, Lilly, Countess de La Pasture (née Léontine Standish), died the following day, aged 26. On 19th March 1889 Monica married Charles Edward Nicolas Charrington, they had one daughter, Pippa. The marriage ended in divorce on 25th May 1903, Sir George Bullough being named co-respondent. A few weeks later, on 24th June, in a glittering ceremony at Kinloch Castle, Monica married Sir George. Their daughter, Hermione, was born on 5th November 1906. Lady Bullough died in 1967, aged 98, and is interred alongside her husband and his father in the family mausoleum on the west side of the island.
