The group of figures in low relief is represented as if moving towards the left. The figures in the centre are in higher relief, especially the figure of a man holding a child's hand in his left hand and carrying another child in his right arm. On the right is another group led by a man carrying the front end of a stretcher. The figures are all naked and the style avoids clear outlines. The original model for this work was made around 1850 or 1852. This bronze was cast at an unknown date after 1852.
