This copy of a portrait of Lord President Duncan Forbes of Culloden by Allan Ramsay, hangs in the Main Hall of Inverness Town House.

Duncan Forbes of Culloden (1685–1747) was an eminent lawyer and Lord President of the Court of Session between 1737 and 1747. He became the 5th Laird of Culloden on the death of his brother in 1734. He proposed the creation of Royal Highland regiments to prevent clan uprisings and was a loyal pro-government supporter who spent a considerable sum of his own money helping to fund the Duke of Cumberland's forces in the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Despite being a strong government supporter, Forbes opposed the brutal treatment of the Highlanders after the Battle of Culloden.
