Born in London, Chadwick trained as an architectural draughtsman. He served in the Fleet Air Arm in the Second World War. After the war he experimented with mobiles and became a sculptor winning several international prizes in the 1950s.
This work is part of a series inspired by a commission for a monument to the R34 airship which crossed the Atlantic in 1919.
