From her first mature works of the late 1940s, Clough explored the pictorial possibilities of the urban and industrial landscape. Her compositions hover between the abstract and the figurative, and are painted with great sensitivity in a limited palette. 'Mesh with Glove' is one of a number of works from the early 1980s that include wire mesh, here overlaid as a grid and combined with an industrial glove in an essentially abstract composition.
