Born in Ipswich in 1914, Colin Moss studied at the Plymouth Art School from 1930–1934, after which he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art where he studied under Gilbert Spencer among others. In 1938 he completed the murals for the British Pavilion at the New York World Fair. During the war Moss worked first as a camouflage designer and then saw active service in the Middle East. In 1947 he was appointed Senior Lecturer at the Ipswich School of Art, where he stayed until his retirement in 1979.
