Hannah Burton was the daughter of Micah Gedling, JP after whose family Gedling Grove, Nottingham, was named. Hannah's sister, Mary Ann Gedling, married John Bradley who was Mayor of Nottingham in 1856. John Burton was placed in charge of the 'King's Head' Public House, Wollaton, an inn especially built by Lord Middleton for the bargemen on Wollaton Canal.
