Charles Oliver was born in the USA, but attended the Royal College of Art and became Vice Principal at the Laird School of Art and a key figure in the foundation of the Wirral Society of Arts. His influence as a teacher and painter was considerable and he became an important portrait painter in Merseyside. This is a beautiful study of one of his Laird students from the 1950s.
