Although connected with preparatory drawings for the English translation of J. C. Lavater's ‘Essays on Physiognomy', by Henry Hunter, London, 1789–1798, this design has not been recognised among the published engravings. Thomas Holloway (1748–1827) supervised the artwork for the English version of the book. This included re-engraving many of the works from the original German and French publications. This series of designs are mostly preparations for the English version.
