Crosbie was born to Scottish parents in China in 1915. The family returned to Glasgow in 1926 and Crosbie attended Glasgow School of Art from 1932 to 1934. He travelled widely in Europe and lived in Paris from 1937 to 1939 where he studied under Léger and Maillol. Crosbie later made his name as a mural painter. Most notably, his commissions included a mural for the Festival of Britain in 1951. He has a number of works in national collections, including the National Galleries of Scotland.
