Sir Thomas Watson (1792–1882), Bt, had a successful medical career in London. He trained at St Bartholomew’s hospital and was appointed to the chair of clinical medicine at the University of London, before transferring to King’s College where he became professor of forensic medicine. There, he later took the chair of the principles and practise of medicine. In 1859 he became physician-extraordinary to the Queen, and attended the Prince Consort in his last illness. He became a baronet in 1866. Watson held many offices and lectureships at the Royal College of Physicians, London. He was elected to the important office of Representative of the College in the General Council of Medical Education and Registration, and in 1862 he became president of the RCP.
