A full-length portrait of Sir Thomas Webster, 1st Baronet, aged around three. He is shown in classical dress, holding a dog by the lead, in a wooded landscape. Baptised 12th November 1676, Sir Thomas Webster was born the eldest son of Sir Godfrey Webster and was educated at the Middle Temple from 1697. He bought the Battle Abbey estates.

In common with many of the Webster family portraits, the identity of the sitter is only known from frame name-plates and inscriptions on the rear of the painting and frame. This obviously has drawbacks in the degree of certainty that can be attached to the identity of any of the Webster sitters.
