Steven McDade is a former senior lecturer on the BA Hons Fine Art degree at SSU. Now Head of Fine Art at University College Chichester, he continues to practice as an artist and has been widely exhibited. Steven McDade works across a range of media including photography and installation work but principally painting. Exhibitions (such as that at Southampton City Gallery) have used imagery taken from domestic and public buildings exploring ideas of control/security. Other work has used live music, installation with video projections on the theme of 'displacement' (Millais Gallery, Southampton). The recent 2006 exhibition at The Otter Gallery, ‘Moving House’, explored the notion of interior space as a metaphor for psychological states and involved video, painting and sculptural installation. ‘Drawing on Research’ (2008) exhibition represented a range of drawing practices as part of ‘Practice as Research’ exhibition in The Otter Gallery. A recent exhibition at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery ‘Interventions’ (2008) responded to the collection within the museum. His work is in public and private collections.
